There was one year where I literally didn’t go...ever. I looked like I was trying out for Castaway part 2. Anywho. Now that I’ve been wearing my gray hair for 10 years, I’ve finally found my sweet spot. I go every three months which may seem like a lot to some people but I love how it makes my hair look and feel. Here’s exactly what I get done: 1. A custom tinted purple gloss (tone) I love getting a gloss (some people call it a glaze). It’s basically a semi-perm hair color without the color. It adds shine and smoothness back in and I get that va-va-voom feeling when I leave the salon. My fave. To help with brightness, my hairdresser @jennjonesatl adds a custom purple tint to the gloss...like a purple shampoo on steroids. 2. Metal detox treatment This is several products used in succession to remove environmental buildup like metals in water, pollution, product buildup etc. It really makes my hair pop and it gives the gloss a clean slate to work on. 3. Trim + shape I trim an inch or less every visit and reshape to keep it looking bouncy and healthy. For so long I thought gray hair = zero maintenance but now I’m kinda like wait, it might actually be more lol. What you want is a filter that’s actually proven to do what it claims. The easiest way to check? Third-party testing. For water filters, that usually means a NSF certification. Right now I’m using a countertop system I really like while we plan for a bigger home setup but you absolutely do NOT need a whole-house system to get cleaner drinking water. Gray hair is basically pigment-free which means it absorbs whatever is around it...water minerals, metals, pollution, product residue...even copper from plumbing which, according to my bomb ass hair dresser Jenn Jones @creature.atl , there is a lot of in Atlanta! Over time that buildup sits on the hair shaft and turns gray hair from bright to dull to yellow to sometimes even greenish 🤢 This is why purple shampoo alone isn’t enough for some people.
