I’m especially glad we finally tackled our bookcase project before Thanksgiving so I could decorate it in a way that I loved this holiday season. For the last 3 years every time I looked at it, I would think of all the ways I wanted to change it. I knew it could be more. It still a working progress, but the changes so far have made a huge difference in our space. It’s just another example of patience during the renovation process and realistic fixer upper homes are a slow and steady project. On the outside, everything looked polished, exciting, and “successful.” But behind the scenes, I was battling hyperemesis gravidarum for the second time during my pregnancy with Harper—just trying to get through each day getting sick, IV fluids, exhausted beyond words, and pushing my body far past what anyone could see. Strength looks so different in hindsight. Content creation wasn’t the job it is today. There were no clear rules, no balance, no conversations around burnout. I had left my 9–5 and felt an overwhelming pressure to prove that I’d made the right choice—to show up, perform, post constantly, and look perfect while doing it. Rest felt like failure. Pausing felt risky. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that it would work out. That success didn’t require constant polish or nonstop posting. That taking breaks wouldn’t erase opportunities. That mental health mattered just as much as momentum.
