My heart has been shattered and I truly didn’t have the strength to open myself up to anyone. I can’t even tell you the countless amount of times I tried to say something. To say anything, only to be stopped by uncontrollable crying episodes and panic attacks. When I lost Lolo (my dad) it reopened the wound of losing my mom Charlie 25 years ago. You’d think after losing one parent so young that it would prepare me to lose another. Especially one that lived a long life. I didn’t have the best relationship with my dad. We were close when I was little but it was lost along the way. Through the process of caring for him as he could no longer care for himself. I became the parent and he became the child. And even though I anticipated Lolo’s passing a few years before through premonitions and intuition. Nothing could prepare me for the grief to come. I savored every second I had with him in his last years. I didn’t take one second for granted but I selfishly wanted more. I finally had my dad back. I was never going to be ready to let him go. Grief has many layers and one layer that has affected me throughout my life is abandonment. So I did what I could to survive even if that meant shutting the world out. Truthfully, I was never going to be ready to open myself up to anyone. I want you to know it wasn’t personal in any way. This is a baby step for me so please, please, please don’t take it personal if I don’t reply. Every brave step I take is immensely difficult for me. Like ripping off my own skin, raw, bare and bleeding. Please give me time but don’t think for a second that I don’t feel your love and support because I do. You all have given me the strength to keep me going from day to day without even knowing it. I hope I can continue to be brave in 2024. Charlie and Marcelle took a whole new meaning in 2023. Now my business is not only dedicated to my mom. It’s dedicated to my Dad too. I love you Charlie and Marcelino. It’s all for you.
