Being able to make a coffee in the morning, pop to the local shops and actually live in the space for a few days made the trip feel less like a hotel stay and more like a little home in the city ✨🇳🇱 Think comfy beds, thoughtful design, great service and a peaceful location that’s still close enough to get into the centre easily. Job loss, divorce, moving to a new state, new job, new friends, dating, financial instability… all with two precious humans who didn’t ask for any of it. The mom guilt has been insurmountable. So when I met @justinedeitzphotography and I told her I wanted photos as a trio, I knew I didn’t want us frolicking in a field somewhere with light and airy photos. That wasn’t us. That wasn’t me. And that sure as hell wasn’t what we had gone thru in 2023. I wanted edge, grit, a bit dark, and a lot of love. I scoured the internet for inspiration and came up with a lot of nothing. So Justine was on her own and she DID THE DAMN THING. We took to the rooftops and streets of our new downtown city ( #wilmingtonnc ) and she captured US. When I got the shipping notification I decided to scroll thru my previous orders and it was then that I realized how similar my lip colors are … I gravitate towards nude-pink-with a hint of rosewood… but yet always hoping to find the “ONE” that becomes my signature lip color. Your soft heart and your love of your family, your pets, and your passions inspires me to love more. I adore watching you discover new things and finding answers to all of your questions about the world around us. When you were first born, I had about a month when your sister was still in morning daycare and it was just you and me for the first part of the day. You were so tiny and so sleepy and cuddled perfectly on my chest. I spent hours just holding you, talking to you, and I knew you were going to be such an incredibly special human. I think of those early days still when you climb into bed with me or cuddle with me in the mornings before school. How loving you are, how much I love your freckles and how sensitive you are to everyone around you. I know your sister texts you to get her snacks at night and you do. I know you still cry over Guinness and Sam. I know you are obsessed with Fortnite and the Philadelphia Eagles and that you love your buddies in Mississippi that you talk to on FaceTime. I know you don’t understand why you have to floss and that you think you can exist on pizza and chicken nuggets…. But one day, my son, you will figure it out. And I will always be here ready to help. I want to be flexible and excited and confident in the future…. But truthfully, I dig my heels in at the first ripple of something changing; my defenses go up in a flash and I become the least favorite version of myself. Cold, distant, and stubborn. (Sound familiar, fellow Italians? 😏) I talked to some of my dearest loved ones and just knowing they loved me in spite of me being my not-so-great self. Isn’t that really what life is? Finding your people who will ride with you or die trying? Thankfully, I have found mine and I’m adding to my circle as we speak. The fact that I am hopeful to have another opportunity tomorrow (a Brand New Day) to show them I can be better- I will try harder - I will prove that they love me for good reason is priceless. No real reason for this other than sharing in case you may have had one of those days and for you to know, it’s ok. You aren’t alone.
