Tellingly, the parallels are clear — depleted resources, resulting environmental stress, overpopulation, and a fight for power and control. SHARE this tip and learn from our mistake! 🇬🇹 With the Guatemala border (Benque Viejo del Carmen–Melchor de Mencos Border Crossing) a mere 15 miles from @chaacreek in Belize, I felt compelled to cross over with my family, have lunch, and get the stamp. BUT, I made the rookie mistake of thinking a quick border hop was enough — and ended up with a stamp, a few photos, and no real experience. We missed Antigua, Lake Atitlán, Tikal, and so much more. My advice? Take the time to explore and add a few days in Guatemala when you’re visiting Belize. Cross over, fully soak in the culture, taste the food, meet the people. Luckily I was able to renew my passport online in just 15 minutes, and it arrived in my mailbox 2 weeks later. 👉 Here’s your 6-Month Passport Rule checklist: ✅ Check your passport expiration date. ✅ If it expires within 6 months of your trip, visit your destination’s official immigration website and check with your airline to see if the country enforces the rule. Incredible seafood rice bowls + sashimi. Leave some rice and ask for the sea bream broth at the end. Go early — lines get long. 2. Godaime Hanayama - famous for their extra-wide himokawa udon, served with tempura and two dipping sauces (soy & sesame). 3. Rare Tendon Ginza Mitsuyoshi - specialized in tempura bowls. We chose the wagyu beef rolls — so good. Reservation recommended. 4. Sushi Ryuta - Omakase experience with the kindest team and beautiful sushi curation. A must if you love intimate dining. Reservation needed. 5. Gyukatsu Motomura - an all-time favorite. Deep-fried beef cutlets served rare, grilled to your liking at the table. Avoid peak dinner hours. 6. @ichiran_jp - worth the hype. Simple, delicious ramen you can fully customize — perfect for solo dining. 7. Sushiro - easy, quick conveyor-belt sushi option with lots of variety. 8. @henrysburger_japan - Wagyu burgers done right. So good we went twice. 9. Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu - similar to Motomura, but with different beef cuts to choose from. 10. Udon Shin - fresh udon made after ordering. Always long waits. 11. @kurasushi.jp - fun conveyor-belt sushi with a great selection. We went to the Global Flagship Store in Asakusa. 12. @savoyazabujuban - even as Europeans spoiled with good pizza — this one was still very good. 13. Maguroya Kurogin - one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had. Bluefin tuna trio: otoro, chutoro & akami. 14. @age.3_ginza - known for their agepan. Tried the crème brûlée flavor — delicious, but slightly overhyped in my opinion. 15. @ginkado_asakusa - ichigo daifuku on Nakamise Street in Asakusa. Tried the chocolate mochi — loved it. 16. Harbs - huge selection of cakes with seasonal flavors. 17. @flippers.jp - delicious fluffy Japanese pancakes. Go before opening to avoid long lines. 18. @i.m.donut - my new addiction. Definitely in my top 5. 2. @gokago_kyoto (Kyoto) – could be my favorite. Loved it with the ice cream topping 🤌🏼 Long lines, but they move fast. 3. @cloudclub_ginza (Tokyo) – again, long line, but one of my Tokyo favorites. They use 7g of matcha per cup 🤤 4. @lambert.tokyo (Tokyo) – amazing matcha & one of my favorite café aesthetics. Very calm and cozy (reservation-only seating). 5. @wadcafe (Osaka) – such a special experience. You can choose your own matcha bowl, and the space feels very zen. There’s also a gallery upstairs. 6. @matchastand02 (Tokyo) – located at Tsukiji Fish Market. Go early! Very rich, intense flavor. 7. Walden Woods (Kyoto) – more coffee-focused, but worth visiting for the matcha soft serve & cute interior. 8. @the_matcha_tokyo – slightly more nutty than the others I tried, still good, but feels more like a chain. 9. @nakamura_tokichi_official (Tokyo) – high-quality Uji matcha, but this location used pre-made matcha, which you could taste.
