2026-03-05 10:29 Video 2024-03-02 15:44:09 It’s been ONE year since MICROJOYS made her way into the world! One of the most magical parts of this experience was what you all could not see: My big brother (who lost his eldest son, his mother and nearly his baby brother within 7 months), one of my dearest friends (Hi @tamsinrasor ) and my cute husband watching 10 feet in front of me behind the camera crew. They were in the room with me and their energy calmed me. They were and are my rock. And to share this moment with the folks who walked through the fire of 2020 with me—meant everything. and obviously, if you haven’t picked up a copy of MICROJOYS. You really should. And if you have, do me a favor and go over to Amazon right now and leave a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ review. (And no, you did not have to buy the book on Amazon in order to leave a review there. So get to it!❤️🙏🏽) - 445 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Video 2026-03-03 18:05:11 In 2026, this should not require a TED Talk of its own. Speakers do not speak for free. If you are producing an event and inviting someone to share their expertise, their stories, their frameworks, and the IP they’ve spent years building, that is labor. It is also my business. Exposure isn’t a currency. “Great visibility” does not pay a mortgage. A gorgeous Canva graphic with my face on it does not cover health insurance. Promotion is marketing for your event, not compensation for my work. If you’re asking someone to show up, prepare, deliver, engage, travel, or lend their name to your platform, you should be prepared to offer real value in return. That can look like a speaking fee. It can look like a clear and agreed-upon exchange of services. It can look like a partnership with substance behind it. What it cannot look like is a cold email to a stranger assuming they’ll be thrilled to donate their profession to your programming calendar. If there is no budget, say that plainly. If you’re building something new, be transparent. If you genuinely want a collaboration, structure one. But let’s retire the idea that professionals should feel grateful for the opportunity to work for free. Pay people. Or build an exchange that honors the work. It really is that simple. Come …on, folks. - 174 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Video 2026-03-03 16:14:30 I have questions. How did this happen? When did this happen? We built a snowperson less than a week ago. 2026-03-05 10:29 Image 2026-02-22 22:58:13 We’re about to be snowed in on the Northeast and my husband, who knows full well we have a fully stocked fridge, insisted on “running to Whole Foods for a few quick meals to snack on.” Folks, we do not need quick meals. We have food. We have snacks. We have 19 kinds of tea and 7 kinds of coffee. We have options. MANY options. But this is Ira. He’s from Minnesota and his love language is preparedness. If there is a weather advisory within a 200 mile radius, he is ready to secure provisions. Meanwhile, I’m over here lighting candles, adjusting bulb brightness and announcing that a picnic counts as a viable dinner plan for two adults. We rent, so there is no romantic driveway shoveling necessary. But instead, just us inside our delightful home with the blinds open, watching the forecast escalate and debating whether we should make a fire. He wants reinforcements. I want to prove that what we already have is enough. Somewhere between those two instincts is our marriage. He is steady and thoughtful. He is also convinced we could always use one more rotisserie chicken (we can not.) I am expressive and opinionated and more confident than I have any right to be about what is already in the kitchen. I love this about us. I love that when the world starts bracing, his instinct is to take care of us. I love that when things feel uncertain, my instinct is to make it warm and cozy. Between the two of us, we kinda have it figured out. The snow can come and the roads can close. There is nowhere else I would rather be than right here, in this colorful home, married to the man who thinks we need emergency egg salad “just in case.” A reminder: We do not. - 135 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Image 2026-02-20 19:05:30 The term ‘midlife crisis’ needs a rebrand. Four hours into a leisurely weekday grown-ass lady lunch, one of my best girlfriends @tamsinrasor looked at me and said, very matter-of-factly, “The term ‘midlife crisis’ needs a fucking rebrand.” We’d already covered aging family, work, money, retirement, ambition, and the desire to spend our time in ways that reflect who we are now, with people we actually enjoy being around. The phrase midlife crisis kept surfacing in joke form because, truly, it feels like it belongs to a different generation, in the same way that it makes no sense that we are essentially the age of the Golden Girls circa 1987. It just feels dated. I’m 48 years old, a very hot 48-year-old lady, I might add (and no, I’m not shy about that. I know!) God willing, I’m not staring down the end of anything and, if I’m fortunate, I’ve got decades ahead of me. We’re living well into our 80s and beyond, and we still talk about 45 as though it signals some kind of unraveling. That framing makes no sense in the context of a longer life. When I was 25, I made decisions from a completely different vantage point. I had less experience, fewer losses, more ego, and more stamina for things that no longer interest me. At 48, I’ve got more clarity about how I want my days to feel, what work matters to me, which relationships nourish me, and which expectations I’m no longer aligned with. Truly, wouldn’t it just be weird if we weren’t reassessing at this point in our lives? Of course we’re asking whether our career still aligns, whether the place we live still fits, whether the version of success we’ve had deserves to come with us into the next chapter. That all feels appropriate for a life that is still very much in motion. Our ridiculously leisurely lunch gave me language for this. I am in a continual practice of self-inquiry and reassessment. In hindsight, I think I’ve always been. It’s a practice that I pride myself on. And I suspect I’ll be doing the same at 58 and 78. And that feels very true for my friends, as well. I don’t know, y’all. That feels more like discernment to me and less like a crisis of any kind. 🩷 - 108 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Sidecar 2026-02-16 19:03:00 Last week I had the honor of keynoting @crewnetwork’s Winter Summit and yes, there was a standing ovation, which I received with gratitude as I awkwardly stood there attempting to pretend this was normal. 😭Really, I just wanted to cry. I spoke about resilience, clarity, and why toxic positivity makes smart people want to throw shit. We talked about how to stay hopeful without pretending everything is fine. We told the truth and laughed a lot. We looked at the world as it actually is and then asked, now what? Here’s what came back: 100 percent found it valuable. 99 percent want to hear me again. One percent said “not necessarily”, which honestly made me respect the whole thing even more.😂 96 people took the time to fill out the survey after the talk. That matters to me. Applause is beautiful but engagement is powerful. It means the conversation didn’t just sound good, it landed. We are all SO tired of empty inspiration. People want language for what they are living through. They want tools that hold up on a Tuesday afternoon, and not just in a conference ballroom after a few cups of morning coffee. To the folks in that room, thank you for showing up fully. You made it what it was. And if you are building a conference, a leadership retreat, or a room full of humans who need more honesty with hope, I will bring the mic and a whole lot of perspective. And laughs. The kind that makes you cry.🩷 P.S. I don’t travel with a crew or my own photographer so this picture is from a different talk that I did @altsummit. @kristenloken is always strong on her picture game. - 106 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Image 2026-02-14 14:55:38 Circa 1985. Fourth grade. Wide gaps between every tooth. Full Michael Jackson ambition. I can go straight back to this exact moment. I’m sitting on the floor between my mother’s legs while she sits on the edge of the bed, blue and white bottle of S-Curl activator in her right hand and a cigarette in her left, trying to give me the curls of my dreams. I told her I liked Michael Jackson’s hair. My white mother said, “say less, daughter, I’ve got this.” She had absolutely no idea how curl activator worked. None. But she was determined. The gel dripped down onto my shoulder. A little ash landed on the white part of my dress, which you can still see if you zoom in on my left shoulder. She never did get it out. I was also wearing beige sheer stockings for the first time and felt wildly sophisticated. The dress had a black skirt attached at the bottom and in my mind I was already at least sixteen. Looking at this now, I can’t responsibly ignore the fact that we had an open flame hovering very close to what I am fairly certain was a highly flammable chemical situation happening directly above a fourth grader’s head. The 80’s were WILD. But here is what I feel more than anything else. She was trying and she was listening. Mom was paying attention to who I was becoming and wanted me to feel seen in that. A white mom raising a little Black daughter and doing her level best with a bottle from the beauty supply store and a cigarette that I’m sure she needed. Today is Valentine’s Day and this is the love story I am thinking about. The love we have in our lives that may not be romantic. The kind with ash stains and dripping gel and a woman figuring it out in real time because her daughter wanted to look like her hero. Wherever you are, Happy Valentine’s Day, mom. You did your best. And I felt it. And my hair looked FABULOUS.❤️ Happy LOVE day, friends. x - 131 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link

2026-03-05 10:29 Sidecar 2025-12-29 20:32:07 I used to collect people. I let everyone all the way in. The more, the merrier. Speaking of collecting, I recently found my old Garbage Pail Kids cards, which feels related somehow. But I digress. I still love people. This past year, though, I’ve gotten crystal clear about who I actually want fully in my life. And y’all, I shocked myself with how few it really is. I no longer have much interest in filler relationships, which are such a deep part of our culture. That likely has something to do with where I am in my own life and what the last decade has asked of me. I paid closer attention to my relationships this year. What stayed felt meaningful. What didn’t… fell away. Bittersweet and incredibly clarifying. This year also reminded me that alone and lonely are absolutely not the same thing. I love my people with the heat of a thousand suns, but for possibly the first time ever, I genuinely prefer my own company most of the time. Ira is the exception, obviously. I’d always rather be somewhere with him. Actually, that’s not true. I still need my alone time. x As always, if you’ve read this and it resonates— please REPOST, SAVE, COMMENT. Don’t be selfish. 2026-03-05 10:29 Image 2025-12-27 14:58:31 While visiting my brothers for the holiday, we opened a box of old photos. There were so many that I only made it halfway through, but this one made me smile out loud. Yes, that’s a thing. Is it weird that I remember this exact moment? Santa was not smizing. AT ALL. I would’ve been three, but I remember where this was and the time surrounding it. All the details. Seeing this photo brought me right back there. And then I actually looked at it. Because come on now with these bologna curls. Mama Shelley absolutely came through. Look at that straight part. Such precision and commitment. Though, I’m not sure if it was supposed to be centered or slightly off to the side.🥰 Also, I don’t think I’ve worn green since this, which is a bit of an oversight because clearly I look excellent in green. We should talk about that. Any nostalgic holiday memories on your end? Old photos, outfits, or hair choices that deserve public scrutiny? I mean…acknowledgment? Spill. And though the calendar says I’m late, I’m choosing abundance anyway. Happy everything, gorgeous friends. - 84 cyndiespiegel Open Link Open Link
2026-03-05 10:29 Sidecar 2025-11-13 23:36:58 I saw two women at ShopRite fall into an easy rhythm of recognition and it stopped me for a moment. It reminded me of how I grew up, and how my mother moved through the world with such directness and familiarity. She always knew how to see people and how to let them know she did. Whether they wanted to be seen or not as a different question altogether.😂 And. But. We lose that when pretense becomes more important than real connection. I’ve spent much of my adult life in privileged spaces and i’ve learned how to perform, but I’m almost forty eight years old and I have no interest in that anymore. I miss the honesty of home and the nostalgia of childhood, however imperfect it was. I don’t know, does this feel out of touch? What do you think? 2026-03-05 10:29 Video 2026-02-26 13:41:17 Greek meatballs! The thing about meatballs is that you can literally use whatever you want. They are basically a vessel to pack with flavor. Taco meatballs? Yep! Breakfast meatballs? Hell yes! Greek meatballs? 🤤 Greek Meatballs: 1lb of ground turkey (I use 93/7 fat percentage) but you can also use whatever ground meat you want! Finely chopped shallot, about half a shallot Finely chopped garlic, 2 cloves 1/2 cup finely chopped kalamata olives 3 pepperoncinis, finely chopped finely chopped dill finely chopped parsley finely chopped feta (I prefer goats milk feta in brine!) salt + pepper + a dash of ground oregano Combine and roll into meatballs! Bake at 350F for 18-20 mins on a nonstick sheet pan. For my pasta I made a sauce of olive oil, the juice of one lemon, Parmesan, salt and pepper, and chopped parsley. Enjoy! - 845 lizadams Open Link Open Link
