Like… aggressively yes. The only reason I hesitated was because they were a little more than I typically gamble on for art when I don’t already know the artist’s background. But after digging in, turns out Carolyn Norton is a listed artist with auction history, known for still lifes and figure studies, and honestly these dogs are exactly the kind of work people love from her. Loose and painterly without feeling overly traditional. Slightly impressionistic. Slightly minimal. Extremely cute. And the thick gold frames absolutely complete them. They make these tiny paintings feel way more substantial and collected than their size would suggest. Two and a half years ago, they stood in this exact spot celebrating the little girl they were waiting to meet. This spring, they came back with that same little girl twirling through the grass and another baby on the way. One of my favorite things about photography is getting to capture the different seasons of a family's life. The anticipation of a first baby. The chaos and joy of toddlerhood. The excitement of growing your family again. These moments may look different, but they're all part of the same story.
